General Rules
Question: When can I start playing in the roleplay?
Answer: NEW Before you can officially join the RPG you must PM your character profile to all three administrators along with the code that indicates that you have read and understand the rules. You will get a reply back saying that you can post your character in the Character Profile board or that there are some things you have to change or complete. An administrator must reply to your character introduction before you can start playing as that character. If an administrator catches you playing without a go-ahead, you will get a warning.
Question: What is the restrictions on characters and posts?
Answer:No all-powerful posts. Basically, this means you can't make another character do anything. This is called godmoding, and it is most annoying to the other players. You will get one warning if you do this, then you are out. You also cannot control the reactions of an entire roomful, house table, wizarding world, etc. You can, however, control a parent or sibling if they are not in being played in the RPG.
Question: How long do the posts have to be and do they have to be in a certain format?
Answer: This is very important and a personal rule of my roleplays. Post must be at least 5 sentences long. Anything less is not a valuable contribution to the roleplay and doesn't give the player you're interacting with much to play with. Please try to abide by this rule at all times.
Question: What person and tense do the posts need to be in?
Answer: Third person, past tense, please. When your posting, in character, please remember this. First person RPG is very hard on the other players. Also post as if you were telling a story, with full sentences, quotation marks when speaking, etc.
Question: What are the limitations to the freedom of the RPG?
Answer: There are virually no language or sexual limitations on this roleplay. I will not tolerate, however, any posts that are demeaning or hurtful to a person or group of people. This is not so much a rule as a courtesy request. Please be kind to the other players and the decisions they decide for their characters. We will not abide by chiding or rude remarks (unless you are in character!) from anyone. Doing so will mean immediate expulsion. When writing OOC, please use only language that you think would be appropriate, I'd rather not have a crew of sailors with mouthes dirtier than the ship they sail to captain. Yarr...
Question: How many characters can I create and play?
Answer: You can have a maximum of 3 characters on this roleplay. Each must have it's own character introduction. If you are posting with another character, please state that before you begin your post by stating your character's name in bold.
Question: What should I name myself on the boards?
Answer: When registering for the board, you can have your username be whatever you like but your Display Name must be the name of your character. This will prevent confusing posts and who plays which character. (If this is not followed you will get one warning, then out)
Question: How are housepoints and detentions given out?
Answer: House points and detentions are given out by teachers only. House points can also be won in Quidditch matches. The winners of Quidditch matches will be determined by how active the players that are on the team are on the RPG and through a discussion between the Administrators.
Question: How many different places can one character post at once?
Answer: This RPG is played in fuzzy time, meaning that your character may be in more than one place at once. But please, keep it at or below three places just so you can make sure to keep up with them. This is also for the benefit of other members, to make sure they have an active person to interact with, not someone who is spread too thin!!
Character Rules
Question: What kind of characters are allowed in the RPG?
Answer: All characters will be your own made up characters. There will no original characters (eg. Harry Potter, Severus Snape) being played here UNLESS I give you explicit permission to do so. To apply for an original character, send me (kaalissi) a message including which character you wish to be and how they might be able to work with the roleplaying enviroment. For your made-up characters, there is a character sheet in the character section of the forum.
Question: How do the parents work?
Answer: This rule is a little complicated, but must be followed. If you wish to make up a character, it's parents must be different character's from the parents of the other players. This means that if you wish to have a character born from Ron and Hermione, but Ron has already been taken as a parent by another character, you cannot use him. However, there are some exceptions from this rule. Your child could be a bastard child, meaning that if the parent you want for your character has been taken, that character could have impregnated your other parent, but not built a relationship out of it. This can lead to interesting half brothers and sisters, but also take their childhood into account when describing their personality. Also, you may want to make a sibling of another players character. This MUST be discussed with the other player before doing so. They may not want another sibling for their character. This character must be made as a second or third character.
Question: Are original parents allowed?
Answer: Yes
Question: How do I get a position on the Quidditch team? How old do the captains need to be?
Answer: If you wish your character to play Quidditch, please PM an administrator with the character's House and position. If that position is taken, I'll send you back a list of positions that aren't. Students on the House team must have their own broom and must be a second year or older. Please tell your position and broom in your description under Quidditch once you have been accepted onto the team by an admin. Students must be a 6th or 7th year to be the team captain.
Question: What about Prefects and Head Girl/Boy?
Answer: These will be chosen by the admins out of the 6th and 5th years for the prefects and 7th years for Head Girl and Boy.
Question: What do I do when I want a second character?
Answer: If you wish to play as a second character you must 1. PM the admins (all three of them) 2. Once your request has been accepted, create a new user and name it for your new character. Always post in the right user, don't forget!
Story Information
Question: When is the RPG set?
Answer: The RPG starts about 20 years from the end of Harry's final year at Hogwarts, 2016. All birthdays and birth histories must coincide with this date. This will be a clue that you have read these rules!
Question:What is it that I need to tell you in my PM?
Answer: Admin, I managed no mischief.
